Healing the Soul Wound with Dr. Eduardo Duran, PhD (Tewa, Apache, Lakota)
Eduardo Duran, PhD, will be speaking on healing the soul wound and moral injury and how these relate to awakening.? The soul wound or “injury where blood doesn’t flow” (Duran and Firehammer 2017) relates to historical, spiritual, racial wounding and will be talked about in the context of the Buddhist notion of emptiness or the Zen idea of “Big Mind,” yet within our everyday relative world experiences as well.
Dr. Eduardo Duran (Apache/Tewa/Lakota) is a psychologist who has worked in Indigenous communities most of his professional career. He is a Vietnam Veteran who started his academic training after his discharge from the U.S. Navy. He has been involved in Buddhist and traditional Native practices for many years, and his work is informed by traditional teachings from Native elders as he creates a hybrid model in his clinical practice to address the deeper issues resulting from soul wounding.
Eduardo is the author of?Buddha in Redface, a story that deals with these traditions as well as our karmic relationship to the Earth.
